June 2007, Online
GOLD07: Online Lactation Discussion Conference
June 25 - July 2

The GOLD07 Conference is an international online conference for those interested in breastfeeding and lactation issues. At an international online conference delegates attend sessions from presenters around the world from their computer. You don't need anything special, except a sound card in your computer and a connection to the internet - even dial-up will be OK. An inexpensive headset would make the experience more personal, and a microphone will allow you to ask the presenter questions during question time, though you could just as easily type in your question.

Early bird registrations have opened already. Full registration is from May 21. Our goal in making this conference happen is to give as many people as possible access to the world's best speakers. Should the conference make a profit, the profits will be donated to breastfeeding supportive organisations.

PROGRESS

Progesterone After Previous Preterm Birth for the Prevention of Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome

The aim of the study is to answer the question does vaginal progesterone therapy in women with a previous spontaneous preterm birth reduce the risk of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome?

Primary hypothesis

The administration of progesterone to women with a history of previous birth will

  • reduce the risk of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome

Secondary hypotheses

Administration of progesterone to women with a history of previous spontaneous preterm birth will

  • reduce the risk of morbidity from neonatal lung disease;
  • reduce the risk of morbidity from other adverse outcomes for the infant;
  • reduce the risk of maternal morbidity without adverse effects of therapy

USEFUL LINKS/NETWORKS

www.somanz.org

SOMANZ: the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. The Society aims to advance clinical and scientific knowledge of hypertensive diseases and medical disorders in pregnancy and to foster collaboration with other regional and international societies interested in hypertension in pregnancy and obstetric medicine.

SOMANZ – so good we named it twice! In 2004 a new society called ANZSOM (Australian and New Zealand Society of Obstetric Medicine) was formed after the amalgamation of ASSHP (Australasian Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy) and OMGA (the Obstetric Medicine Group of Australasia).

Due to the similarity of the name to other societies it was necessary to rename the organisation SOMANZ – the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. All previous members of ASSHP and OMGA became automatic members of the newly formed Society and subscription notices have been sent inviting them to renew their membership.
Membership of SOMANZ is open to any person who is engaged in research or in practice of the broad field of hypertension in pregnancy or obstetric medicine, or who has demonstrated particular interest in this area.
