The Queensland WOMBAT Workshop – July 31-August 1 2008
The Mater Mother’s Hospital in Brisbane recently held an evidence based
practice course and WOMBAT protocol workshop. The workshop was attended
by approximately 15 budding researchers from South East Queensland who
brought questions that they wished to develop into a research protocol.
Throughout the workshop the participants could discuss their research
questions with experts from the WOMBAT faculty including Professor
Caroline Crowther, Assoc. Professor David Osborn, Dr Jodie Dodd,
Philippa Middleton, Dr Rebecca Tooher and Vicki Flenady.
Participants came with a variety of interesting topics including:
trialling of a wireless tracking device for medical equipment, the
efficacy of SiPAP vs CPAP in the neonatal nursery and comparing 2 brands
of neonatal feed and their effects on glycemic index in the neonate.
Overall, the feedback from the workshop was overwhelmingly positive, and
we look forward to hearing if any of the research questions discussed
develop into studies.
